Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

FAQ on DIYS Soap Products

What kind of ingredients are being used?

We use many different types of natural ingredients. In many of our products, you can find Shea Butter, but also different types of vegetable oil. We do not use mineral oil in our products. Want to know more about the difference between a vegetable and mineral oil. Read more about this in our blog Natural versus Mineral oils.

Will there also be products for men available?

Yes, we are busy developing a men's line. If you miss products in our range, we would like to hear from you. Send an email to: [email protected].

What is the best way to use a shampoo bar?

The shampoo bar is easy to use. Moisten your hair in the shower, then rub the shampoo bar over your hair and scalp. The shampoo bar will foam automatically. Rub it gently through your hair and scalp and then rinse it with (lukewarm) warm water. If you think it is necessary to use a conditioner, then that is of course possible. Let the shampoo bar dry in a soapbox after use. If you go on a trip, you could take the shampoo bar with you in this beautiful bamboo travel soapbox, but if you don’t have much space in your luggage, you could also take it with you in a washcloth. You like to know more, please read our blog about shampoo bars.

Are the products vegan?

Yes, all our products are vegan. However, beeswax can be found in several of our products. Some vegans use beeswax and others do not. In the following products you can find beeswax: lip balm, deodorant pop-up stick, face cream ”me & my rose”, face balm” it's all I have to bring today”, hair and body soap “rosemary” and “poppy pop” scrub soap.

What is the shelf life of the products?

The shelf life of the products varies per product, as this depends on the ingredients that are in it. We prefer to work with preservatives as little as possible. The shelf life can always be found on the labels. If products have a relatively short shelf life (for example 3 months), we will add this to the product information on the website. Most of our products have a shelf life of 9 to 24 months.

Are there also travel packages for sale?

Several products are suitable for travelling. For example, our rosehip oil or rose serum are very handy as they come in small amounts. Furthermore, our shampoo bars, our hair soap (hair & body) and our toothpaste tablets are very handy to take with you on a trip as they are all solid which makes it easier to travel with hand luggage only.

Where can I find a list of the ingredients?

On the website, you can find the ingredients per product under the product description. The ingredient list can also be found on the products themselves.

I am a big fan of your products and would like to make them myself. Can I email you for the recipes?

No, we don’t give away the recipes for our products. In our workshops, we share certain recipes and you are free to create your own recipes based on these.

Your packaging is really beautiful. I would like to know where you buy everything. Can I send an email about this?

No, unfortunately not. Finding the right packaging and suppliers has been a long and sometimes costly process for us and is still ongoing. This is not information that we simply give away.

I am pregnant. Is it safe to use products containing essential oils during pregnancy?

The general advice is to avoid the use of essential oils for the first three months of pregnancy. Even when you are not pregnant, you should never use essential oils undiluted. All our ready-made products are diluted to a safe amount. These particular essential oils are generally regarded as safe for use during pregnancy: lavender, rose, lemon, chamomile, and geranium oil. Some of our ready-made products without essential oils are Olive Oil soap, ‘I Kid You Not’ body cream and ‘Doing bar time’ lotion bar.

FAQ about DIYS Soap

Which stores are selling DIYS Soap products?

In April 2017,  our store opened in the van Woustraat in Amsterdam. Furthermore, you can find our products also in various shops and salons in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. For address information please click here: DIYS Soap in stores

The products are in the higher price range, what are the key cost components?

Our prices are based on the prices of the ingredients and packaging. We only work with pure and high-quality ingredients. These are often more expensive than processed ingredients (e.g. read our blog about the difference between vegetable and mineral oils), but they do contain more active substances. In addition, our packaging material is not always the cheapest choice.  We consciously choose this, as we believe it is important that packaging can be reused, so we don’t create extra waste for our planet.

Can DIYS Soap also be found in the media?

Several magazines and newspapers have written about DIYS Soap, these articles can be found under DIYS Soap in the media. We have also been featured twice on Eigen Huis en Tuin and shared some recipes.

How do the parcels get delivered?

For delivery we work together with PostNL, they deliver in most areas by electric vehicles. This sustainable way of delivery fits well with our vision and mission.

The email with track and trace code states that the package will only be delivered after 1-2 working days. How is this possible?

PostNL delivers the parcels and you will find the day through track and trace. Check which hour of the day it will be delivered in the morning of the day of delivery. In this way, people are more likely to be at home to accept parcels. If you placed an order which needs to be delivered to a company address on a Thursday, the parcel will be delivered on Monday during the day.

FAQ DIYS Soap Workshops

Do you take extra measures for the workshops in connection with Covid-19 in the coming period?

Due to the new Covid-19 reality in which we find ourselves, we had to decide to change our workshop formula. We can only do workshops in our store with small groups (maximum of 3 people, so that everyone can keep 1.5 m distance at all time). We've also had to change part of our workshop offer due to the new situation. You can find our workshops on our website and we've placed an offer of online workshops on the website.

Can I reschedule my workshop if the date doesn't suit me anymore?

Yes, it is possible to reschedule your workshop to another date. You can reschedule up to one week before the workshop takes place.

Do you also give workshops on location?

Yes we do! We also give workshops on location for groups and companies. There are additional costs, such as travel costs and time. For more information about workshops on-location click here. If you have any questions or want to know what the options are for your group, please send an email to [email protected].

Do you also offer kids birthday parties?

Yes, we do that too. More information can be found at Kids party. Due to Covid-19, this is only possible in specific cases. Please send us an email if you would like to find out more. E-mail: [email protected]

For example, take a look at the Soap Making workshop. Do you want an overview of all dates? The most convenient way is to go to our Facebook events page. Here you can find all workshops arranged by date.

I don't want to attend a workshop, but can I email or call you and get the recipes?

No, unfortunately not. If you want to receive the recipes, but cannot come to the workshop, you will have to buy a ticket first. We can then send the recipes by email. Or just purchase one of the online workshops and you can download the recipes straight away!

My friend doesn't want to participate in the workshop but wants to come and watch. Is that allowed?

No, children and friends cannot come along without participating or buying a ticket. We have limited space in the store and if someone wants to come and have a look, they will need to reserve a spot.

Will I receive a refund if the workshop is cancelled due to insufficient participants?

Yes, you will. If the workshop is cancelled due to too few participants, we will always offer the possibility to receive your money back or to let you participate in the same workshop but at a different date.

I can no longer buy a ticket on the website. Does this mean that the workshop is sold out?

Yes, if you can no longer click on the selected date, it means that the workshop is already sold out. You can send us an email with the request to be put on the waiting list. If you would like to be added to the waiting list, please send an email to [email protected].

When will I hear if a workshop is cancelled?

If the workshop is cancelled from our side, you will receive an email at least 3 days before the workshop. Don't forget to check your spam/junk mail to see if the workshop has been cancelled. Luckily, this is not very common, as most workshops are sold out.

I didn’t receive a confirmation email for the workshop. What should I do?

Check your junk mail or spam. We always send a confirmation email, but sometimes it ends up in the spam inbox.

Is there parking available near your store?

Parking in Amsterdam is expensive and it is often difficult to find a spot. If you want to come by car, it is best to park in a garage. The nearest one is the apcoa garage: https://www.apcoa.nl/parkplaats/amsterdam/apcoa-parking-heinekenplein/. This is about a 10-minute walk from our store.
